Watermark & COVID-19

Watermark Retirement Communities responded to the COVID-19 pandemic back in February with the creation of a Task Force of health care and senior living experts. The Task Force initiated a comprehensive plan with safety and security protocols including best practices from federal and state authorities as well as Watermark’s decades of operating experience.

Watermark’s commitment to the utmost safety and well-being of our residents and associates means that we are continuing to follow all current protocols for mitigating the COVID-19 virus in the 59 communities we operate across 21 states.  As the pandemic presents a fluid situation, our teams are on the leading edge of information and safety practices. Watermark’s dedicated associates are implementing and updating precautions as needed to safeguard residents in our dining rooms, community life and during visits with loved ones. 

Examples of some of the measures in place for visitors include screening and temperature checks, hand-sanitation, masking and social distancing. Prevalence testing of our associates and residents is conducted in accordance with local, state and federal health care requirements. Our established protocols of rigorous cleaning and disinfection processes are conducted throughout community spaces. Safeguards also include detailed procedures for housekeeping and laundry. Self-quarantine periods for residents upon return from essential trips help to keep our communities free from the virus.

Transparent and accurate communication is a core value at Watermark. Our communication with families and residents has never been stronger.  Our outreach includes frequent and community-specific updates to residents, families and our associates on precautions in place for mitigating the virus. Leadership teams at Watermark communities prioritize the care and service of our residents and are available to provide additional experience and support. 

While we continue to follow all current safeguards, Watermark community teams are working closely with our Task Force to develop re-opening plans that are specific to each community and follow local and regional safety guidelines.
